The 2020 Original Everest Marathon is being postponed to 2021

The Original Everest marathon & Khumbu challenge

We set the date for making a decision as to whether we were going to be able to have an OEM this year, at the end of June.

Are you up for the challenge??

The Everest Marathon is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the highest marathon in the world. It's not just the race that's demanding as reaching the start line at 5184m, the original Everest Base Camp, is a challenge in its own right!

Your run will take you across glacial moraine, down scree, along narrow tracks and wire suspension bridges, through rhododendron forest and along trails high above the river, to finish at the Sherpa town of Namche Bazaar at 3446m.

To acclimatise safely and naturally, we will be trekking for 15 days, gaining altitude to reach the start. Our route takes in the beautiful Gokyo valley with sacred lakes and the opportunity of experiencing the fabulous view of Everest from the summit of Gokyo Ri at 5,500m.

Later in the trek we spend time in the glacial landscape of Dingboche, with Ama Dablam towering above us. From here you can walk up the Imja valley, towards Island Peak.

Returning to the Khumbu valley there are two nights at Lobuche with the opportunity to get wonderful close-up views of Everest by climbing Kala Pattar 5,500m, or visiting the new Everest Base Camp. Then, the evening that everyone has been focusing on, the pre-marathon prep at  Gorak Shep, the highest habitation in the world.

And to return to the beginning ..... on arriving in Nepal, you'll have time to experience colourful, exuberant Kathmandu before flying up into the lush greenery of the high mountains at 2,700m. Then, after the marathon and the return to Kathmandu, you can visit the World Heritage Sites of Pashupathinath, Boudhanath or Swayambunath, do some shopping or sunbathe by the pool before the  culmination of the whole event, the glittering awards evening.
